Strengthening its commitment to scientific research and national development, Partido State University (ParSU) formalized a strategic partnership with the Department of Science and Technology โ€“ Philippine Nuclear Research Institute (DOST-PNRI) throughย the signing of a Memorandum of Agreement (MOA) for a collaborative geoscience research initiative on March 17, 2026.

The agreement centers on the implementation of the DOST Grants-in-Aid project titled "Geochronology and Isotope Geochemistry of Philippine Sea Ocean Floor and Onshore Analogues: Implications for the Early Tectonic History of the Philippine Sea Plate (PSP)." The project, to be led by Dr. Americus DC. Perez, as Project Leader, convenes the technical expertise of DOST-PNRI and the academic and research capacities of ParSU to generate critical insights into the tectonic evolution of the Philippine Sea Plate.

ParSU President Dr. Arnel B. Zarcedo underscored the significance of the collaboration, noting that it signals both institutional pride and a clear direction toward growth. "Through this partnership, we embark on a research endeavor [...] that brings together expertise in field geology, petrology, and isotope geochemistry to better understand the tectonic evolution of our region," he said.

The partnership establishes a framework for joint planning, implementation, and dissemination of research across key disciplines, including field geology, petrology, geochemistry, tectonics, and isotope geochemistry, opening opportunities for ParSU faculty to participate in specialized training and workshops facilitated by DOST-PNRI to further enhance institutional capacity. In addition, reciprocal access to laboratories, libraries, and research facilities was included in the MOA, subject to the institutions' policies.ย

"While we are proud that BS Geology stands as one of the flagship programs of our university, we are also aware that pride must always be accompanied by progress," Pres. Zarcedo emphasized, adding that "partnerships such as this allow us to take meaningful steps in that direction."

The MOA reflects a strategic alignment of resources and expertise between ParSU and DOST-PNRI, reinforcing their shared goal of advancing Earth science research and deepening understanding of the Philippines' geological foundations.
