The Inland Aquatic Resources Research Division of the Philippine Council for Agriculture, Aquatic and Natural Resources Research and Development (IARRD-PCAARRD), conducted the Monitoring and Evaluation, and field visit of the ongoing PCAARRD-funded project, "SMS in Aquafeeds: Development of an Alternative Aquafeed Ingredient Using Spent Mushroom Substrate (SMS)" yesterday, July 31, 2025, at ParSU Goa campus.ย 

The research project led by Ms. Liezel DC. Atole-Nieva, explores SMS as an efficient alternative to traditional fish feed ingredients, potentially reducing production costs and enhancing food security.
This collaborative initiative highlights ParSU's growing role in applied scientific research. Through strong partnerships, the university remains committed to developing practical solutions to real-world challenges. Aligned with its mandates, ParSU continues to strengthen its role in building resilient and sustainable communities.ย 

Ms. Virna G. Salac, Supervising Science Research Specialist of the IARRD, provided the rationale for the activity and later delivered the closing remarks. The M&E activities also included an insightful laboratory visit, offering a closer look at the research process and its preliminary outcomes.

As part of its ongoing international research collaboration efforts, Partido State University (ParSU) warmly welcomed Dr. Bruce Jayne, Professor of Biology from the University of Cincinnati, Ohio, USA, earlier today.ย 

Dr. Jayne, a research collaborator of visiting professor Dr. Rafe Brown from the University of Kansas, will be working closely with the faculty and students of the College of Sustainable Communities and Ecosystems Caramoan Campus, particularly within the Department of Conservation Biology, until mid-August 2025. Their collaborative research will focus on the natural history, feeding mechanics, gape, and dietary analysis of aquatic snakes.ย 

This partnership reinforces ParSUโ€™s continuous commitment to its internationalization initiatives while enhancing the research competencies of its faculty and students.ย

In an effort to strengthen institutional research collaborations, Partido State University (ParSU), proudly welcomes Dr. Teruyuki Shinbo, Professor of the Laboratory of Environmental Change and Sustainable Society Division of Environmental Science Graduate School of Kuroshio Science at Kochi University, Japan, for the International Scholarly Partnership: Preliminary Meeting and Fieldwork for Collaborative Research and Academic Exchange on March 14-17, 2025, in ParSU Goa campus and selected study sites.ย 

This initiative, organized by the Office of the Vice President for Research, Extension and Knowledge Management, Center for Sustainable Communities and College of Fisheries and Marine Science, aims to broaden global partnerships, enhance the conduct of preliminary fieldwork and facilitate knowledge exchange and sharing in support of the upcoming Department of Science and Technology-Philippine Council for Agriculture, Aquatic and Natural Resources Research and Development Grants-in-Aid Research Project (2025-2027), led by Dr. Joela Mizchelle D. Dacillo of the ParSU College of Fisheries and Marine Science and in collaboration with Kochi University and the Department of Agriculture - Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources Region II.ย 

A key highlight of the event was the preliminary fieldwork conducted in select study sites in Sagรฑay, Camarines Sur, where researchers gathered initial data and assessed field conditions for upcoming projects. This crucial step ensures a comprehensive and evidence-based approach to future studies, laying the groundwork for impactful research and sustainable development initiatives.

This partnership reflects the vital role of interdisciplinary research in advancing coastal resource management. Thus, it serves as an avenue for ParSU to enhance its research capacity and position the former at the forefront of international research initiatives.ย 

As ParSU continues its efforts to bring its brand into the global arena, it remains steadfast in providing quality instruction, impactful research, and responsive extension services for more resilient and sustainable communities.ย

Partido State University (ParSU) welcomed officials from the Department of Science and Technology โ€“ Philippine Council for Agriculture, Aquatic and Natural Resources Research and Development (DOST-PCAARRD) Marine Resources Division, along with the Program Leader, Project Leaders, Research Management Staff, and Research Assistants, to the Hybrid Inception Meeting of the Research Program titled "Assessment of Cephalopod Fisheries in Various Regions of the Philippines" yesterday, June 24, 2025 at the ParSU RDE Training Hall. ย 

This collaborative initiative aims to generate significant data and insights on Cephalopod fisheries nationwide, supporting sustainable management and policy development for aquatic resources.ย 

During the meeting, guidelines for the technical and financial monitoring under the DOST Grants-in-Aid (GIA) Program were discussed to ensure all project components' efficient implementation and accountability.ย 

ParSU Vice-President for Research, Extension, and Knowledge Management, Dr. Raul G. Bradecina, leads Project 7, titled "Value Chain Analysis of Cephalopod Fisheries in Selected Areas Towards enhanced Profitability of Small-scale Fisheries and Sustainable Governance," which aims to provide a comprehensive understanding of the Cephalopod value chain and inform strategies for improving income and sustainability in coastal communities.ย 

This initiative reinforces ParSU's commitment to advancing bio-resource science and research. Further, it marks a more comprehensive multi-institutional research effort in partnership with national agencies and institutions to promote sustainable and resilient communities.ย 

ParSU Strengthens International Research Ties with Kochi University

Partido State University (ParSU) welcomed Dr. Satoshi Kubota, a distinguished professor from the Department of Marine Resource Science and Head of the Kuroshio Science Unit at Kochi University, Japan, for an International Research Collaboration and Academic Engagement.ย 

Dr. Kubota delivered a Special Lecture on "Aquarium Tank Experiment for Coral Bleaching" to selected ParSU students, further strengthening ties between ParSU and Kochi University in marine science and research.

Through the collaborative efforts of the Office of the Vice President for Research Extension and Knowledge Management headed by Dr. Raul G. Bradecina, Research and Development Division, Extension Division, Center for Sustainable Communities, College of Fisheries and Marine Science, and College of Public Safety and Community Health, this activity marks a significant step in fostering international partnerships and advancing research initiatives that will benefit the community.ย 

With this, ParSU remains determined in its goal of internationalization by bridging gaps and collaborating with partners to promote research, marine conservation, and sustainability.ย
