
Coastal and Wetland Ecosystems Centers for Research Management
Provisionally approved under the BOR Resolution No. 26, s. 2014, the Coastal and Wetland Ecosystems Center for Research and Management (CWC) is a strategic research and extension hub designed to advance PSUโs role in coastal, wetland, and fisheries science. It serves as a platform for generating knowledge, developing technologies, and building capacities to promote socioecological resilience, food security, and sustainable livelihoods in aquatic environments.
Objectives
The Center aims to:
- Understand the ecological dynamics and biodiversity of freshwater and coastal ecosystems in Bicol.
- Promote sustainable governance of fisheries and aquatic resources.
- Analyze economic incentives and valuation to support public investment and stakeholder participation.
- Develop innovations in aquaculture, mariculture, and fisheries product development.
- Build stakeholder capacity in resource management, conservation, and technology adoption.
- Provide technical advisory services to LGUs, industries, and communities.
- Disseminate knowledge and raise awareness on the social and ecological importance of coastal and wetland ecosystems.
Services Offered
The Center provides:
- Advisory services on coastal resource management (CRM), ecotourism, biodiversity, and policy development.
- Skills training in hatchery techniques, feed formulation, water quality, pond management, and aquatic research methods.
- Technology transfer on sustainable fishing gear, aquaculture techniques, and fish processing innovations.
- Advocacy and IEC campaigns for ecosystem conservation and resource governance.
- Extension activities focused on community-based CRM and rural enterprise development.
- Student mentoring and immersion for undergraduate and graduate research.
- Research dissemination through policy briefs, lectures, publications, and IEC materials.
